How Does Toyota’s Dynamic Radar Cruise Control Work?

dynamic cruise control

Maybe you’ve heard about Toyota’s unique cruise control system, but if you’re like many other Thomasville drivers, then you may be wondering what exactly this system is and how it works. Luckily, Valdosta Toyota has put together a handy and detailed explanation of Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, so you know exactly what to expect. Learn about this unique safety feature and visit Valdosta Toyota to explore our new Toyota inventory to find a Toyota equipped with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

How Does It Work?

Before we dive into the mechanics of Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, let’s briefly explain what this system is. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is an available feature of the Toyota Safety Sense active safety bundle. The feature works by using sensors and cameras in front of your vehicle to carefully detect other vehicles in your lane and general vicinity. The system uses these detections to determine if your vehicle needs to slow down or speed up and will apply your brakes automatically. Essentially, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is a big step in smart cruise control and driving to help give you an extra set of eyes on the Tallahassee roads.

Is There Still Standard Cruise Control?

One of the great things about Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is that you can choose between this system and regular cruise control on your Albany drives. To switch to regular cruise control, you simply push the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control button for about two seconds, and the indicator light will flash, showing you that you are now using standard cruise control. Once you turn off your Toyota vehicle, it will automatically default back to Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

Adjusting the Speed & Distance

To adjust your speed on the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control system, you simply push the +RES button to increase your speed by one mile per hour. To decrease your speed, you can hit the -SET button. Driving speed may fluctuate depending on whether the system speeds up or slows down automatically due to traffic.

Your Toyota vehicle is set with a specific vehicle to vehicle distance setting that helps determine when the vehicle needs to slow down or speed up. To change this distance setting on your Toyota vehicle, press the distance button on your steering wheel to switch from long, middle, and short settings. The button will be located to the left of the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control buttons and looks almost like the front end of a vehicle with three curved lines.
